What is our feedstock?
The European fermentation industry consumes 4 million tonnes of agricultural feedstock a year, worth over 1 billion euro in 2014 (estimated value: almost 1,400,000,000 euros).
Carbohydrates, such as the sugar glucose (derived from corn and cereals), are the main raw materials for the fermentation industry.
These agricultural feedstocks are absolutely critical for the manufacture of essential products like penicillin, vitamins, amino acids, citric acid and lactic acid. The fermentation of carbohydrates is the only cost-effective solution for ensuring a secure supply of those essential molecules in Europe.
